The Story of Black99 (599) & video

One of the more amazing stories on CondorWatch, needing more than the 140 letters of the TALK box.
Why does this condor's bio say it was hatched and released on the same day?
An infertile egg was taken from a wild breeding pair and a "dummy" egg was given to them to incubate.
Meanwhile, at the Los Angeles Zoo, one of the zoos in California with a condor captive breeding program, a condor egg hatched with a healthy baby - our 599: ) She was packed up in a small cooler, with her egg halves, and then driven/carried/rappelled/hiked/ with great care to the wild condor nest of her "parents" where the fake egg was substituted. Mom and Dad thought they were seeing their egg hatch. 599 thought she was seeing her parents. Confused? Don't be. This was truly a miracle.
You can see a video of this incredible event here . It's part of an even more incredible movie called, "The Condor's Shadow", a film by Jeff McLoughlin
More about the people saving the condors, 599, and the movie can be read on this page "The Condor's Shadow" (including more about one of Condorwatch's own scientists - myraf / Myra Finkelstein! All hail!)
